Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Fire Extinguishers

Tackling a fire involving electrical equipment is likely to be one of the more common uses of the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Extinguisher. In most cases where you find two extinguishers together, one of those will be CO2. CO2 provides a safe, non-conductive means of fighting the fire risks presented by the ‘Electrical' hazards of the modern workplace. It extinguishes fire by removing the oxygen and replacing it with a non-flammable gas, this rendering the Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguisher a rather flexible fire extinguisher.
CO2 fire extinguishers can also be used on Class B fires, which involve flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel oils and fuel. Using the Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguisher on cooking fats should be avoided entirely, as the high pressure discharge can dissapate the fats and spread the fire. This extinguisher is not particularly useful for light-weight materials such as paper and straw and the high pressure will simply blow them away and disperse the damage.
Due to an abundance of Oxygen in the outdoors, the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Fire Extinguisher will not typically be utilized in an outdoor environment as it's suffocating effect on the fire will be rendered ineffective.
Warning: Whilst Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers will be liquidized within the container, do not feel that this state of the gas will cool a fire. The possibility of reignition concluding the use of a CO2 Extinguisher is possible.
